FAQ

A: You can hire a kayak for anytime that suits you, be it a day, weekend, week or fortnight.
Each hire day is a 24 hour period, say from 9am til 9am the next day. Weekend hire is from 4pm on a Friday, with the kayak needing to be returned to us by 10am on the Monday morning, with the same applying to weekly or fortnightly hire periods.

Q: How do you define a 'half day'?

A: A 'half day' is either from 9.00am - 1.00pm or from 1.30pm - 5.30pm

Q: How much notice do you need for my booking?
A 1: Obviously, the further ahead you book makes life easier to plan and secures your booking.
A 2: You can ring and see if we have a kayak available 'right now' if the mood takes you, though for obvious reasons, those that have booked further ahead will take first choice.

A 1: There's nothing better than being out on the water on a nice calm, sunny day,  but it's not always like that. (this is the UK, after all!!) If the weather is not as nice as you'd hoped, then your preperation will carry you through. With the right clothing taken on your trip, then the weather shouldn't interfere too much with your enjoyment. It's better to take too many layers and be ready, than the other way round, we find.
A 2: We don't recommend that you go out in very inclement weather, but as we have no control over it, we all take our chance a little when we book ahead, though with the correct clothing, even paddling in the wind and rain can be pretty pleasurable.

A 1: A change of clothes and a towel for each person going on the water is always a good idea, (Just in case of the unthinkable!) particularly if you going to the seaside to go in the surf. At the end of the day, we all have waterproof skin, but there's nothing worse than having to sit in wet clothing for the return journey, should anyone get wet at all. Preperation is key.
A 2: Enough food and drink for the duration of your trip on the water. (We also have available to hire waterproof barrels for some of our kayaks)
A 3: Sun block cream or lotion, particularly for youngsters.
A 4: A vehicle on which to take the kayak(s) to your chosen place of paddling, preferably with a roofrack if you have one. We do have soft roofracks available to hire, but you will need a 4 door car for this to work! Something to tie the kayak to your car with if not hiring a soft roofrack, like ropes or straps, and maybe an old bedsheet or towel to rest the kayak(s) on to protect your car roof and it's paintwork.
A 5: Someone to paddle with. It's very pleasurable to get away from it all, but kayaking is best done in at the very least pairs.
A: There are two very good reasons for bringing someone with you.
1): Safety. If anything goes wrong, and there is always scope for that, then there is safety in numbers. If you're in a precarious situation and alone, then nobody can help. If you're paddling with someone, you can both help each other. It's not worth taking the risk of paddling alone, particularly for the less experienced.
2): Two's Company! One of the beauties many have experienced is the peace and tranquility of the waterways, and even better than that is sharing it with others on the same trip. Often, it's nice to just chat as you go along, and then if fancy a bit of peace and quiet, you don't have to talk, but you have the choice!
